Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK’s best known hospitals – Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield – as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark, all with a long history of high quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation.

About us:

We are among the UK’s busiest, most successful foundation trusts. We provide specialist care for patients including heart and lung, cancer and renal services as well as a full range of local hospital and community services for people in Lambeth and Southwark.

We have a long tradition of clinical and scientific achievement and – as part of King’s Health Partners – we are one of England’s eight academic health sciences centres, bringing together world-class clinical services, teaching and research. We have one of the National Institute for Health Research’s biomedical research centres, established with King’s College London in 2007, as well as dedicated clinical research facilities.

We have around 22,700 staff, making us one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country and one of the biggest employers locally. We aim to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and continue to develop new and existing partnerships with local people, patients, neighbouring NHS organisations, local authorities and charitable bodies and GPs.

    Highlights:

    • Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust has one of the largest and most experienced commercial teams in the NHS, that includes a variety of departments and is supported by dedicated finance, legal and contracting professionals. The team was established 20 years ago and earns additional income that is used entirely to support the delivery of our NHS services. Through our commercial team, partners can access research, educational, training and clinical business opportunities. Our team proactively explores commercial prospects on behalf of GSTT both in the UK and internationally. The Directorate is split into four subgroups, as outlined below.

    • Business Development. They are a team of commercial experts who work with all directorates to provide expertise and support to generate new revenue opportunities in the UK. The three main service lines in Business Development are Bids & Tenders, Healthcare Delivery and Partnerships. They support Clinical Groups, Directorates and Services to improve and retain existing or deliver new high quality services, as well as increasing revenue, profit and/or savings.

They form innovative partnerships with industry to realise multiple benefits for services including releasing time for clinicians to care for patients, improving efficiency, reducing waste, accessing capital, cost savings, patient pathway improvements and realising additional revenue and profit.

    • Consulting. GSTT Consulting has three key offer areas: Service Design and Development, Continuous Improvement & Trusted Advisor. Using a collaborative approach tailored to customer needs, we use our insight and experience to co-develop solutions across the full spectrum of healthcare that deliver lasting impact.  Where required we also provide ongoing support to help implement the proposed solutions as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Our consultants are usually experts from within the Trust who have direct frontline experience of developing solutions for similar challenges that our clients face. We have the breadth of knowledge and wealth of expertise to develop solutions for our clients across the full spectrum of health and social care that deliver lasting impact. Examples of our services include: Clinical pathways review & redesign; Specialism review(s); Facilities, staff models & skill mix appraisals; Strategic planning & development; Hospital services review; Peer review(s); Tailored learning & development programmes; and Assurance model peer review.

    • Education and Events. The Education and Events team works closely with experts from across the Trust to deliver a wide range of conferences, training courses, masterclasses and internships. The team runs events in a wide range of key clinical areas, including cardiology, haematology, urology, pharmacy and dermatology. They work hard to ensure that they create the highest quality learning and development courses and conferences, which is why all appropriate courses are accredited with continuing professional development points (CPD).

Their events are open to healthcare and allied healthcare professionals from the UK and overseas, providing a great opportunity for attendees to network with peers and experts from around the world. The highly professional events and education programmes which are run from our Guy’s and St Thomas’ training and education facilities include conferences, revision courses, preceptorships, masterclasses, visiting professional programmes, international educational partnerships and visits and departmental training.

    • Private Patients. We offer private patients a unique combination of excellent clinical services delivered by internationally recognised clinicians. They welcome private patients from both the UK and overseas. As a private patient, patients will benefit from the best of both worlds, including access to highly acclaimed clinicians, and fantastic care with the comfort and discretion of a private facility. Our consultants are leaders in their field with expertise in specialist and complex care. All income generated from Private Patient Services is reinvested directly back into the Trust to support the delivery of NHS care and the improvement of clinical services for the benefit of all patients.

Innovation and Commercial Research. The Innovation and Commercial Research team is responsible for commercialising inventions and innovations from our NHS staff at Guy’s and St Thomas’, providing contract research services,  developing research partnerships with industry and helping companies to evaluate or discover new healthcare products and services for the benefit of NHS patients.
