Lifebit

Lifebit empowers various large scale genomics organisations, including population genomics initiatives, biobanks, academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies to make their biomedical data findable and usable. Generating large amounts of biomedical data has become relatively straightforward.

The challenge now is how organisations can access and utilise data stored across thousands of disconnected locations. It is painfully difficult or impossible today. This is paired with strict data privacy restrictions meaning that it is too risky to move this sensitive data. For reference, 52% of European member states do not allow their citizens’ genomic data to cross borders (Data Protection Act 2018).1Lifebit is creating a world where access to biomedical data will never again be an obstacle for curing diseases. It has created a patented federated technology that effectively solves the biggest roadblock for precision medicine - it makes highly sensitive biomedical data securely accessible by bringing researcher’s analysis, advanced AI and computation to where the data resides, instead of moving data around. This enables researchers to run analyses on multiple, distributed datasets in-situ and avoid the risky movement of highly-sensitive data. These technology solutions are enabling secure access to biomedical data, so therapeutic leaders &precision medicine pioneers can achieve faster disease diagnosis and develop more precise treatments.

About Us:

Lifebit CloudOS has allowed researchers to conduct analyses on multiple datasets, all while keeping the data secure in its original location and maintaining biobanks’ full compliance with strict data privacy regulations. Through the patented federated technology, Lifebit is further paving the way for its vision of a future of global collaboration between the world’s largest cohorts - to benefit patients locally and globally. Lifebit's federated analysis architecture is US patent-protected. Lifebit has built a first of its kind Federated Trusted Research Environment, fulfilling this critical industry requirement of permitting linking and analysis of data while keeping this patient data safe and secure. Gaining access to this data can be done by anyone from anywhere and on demand. Lifebit’s solution is fully compliant with industry standards on data privacy and information security, including GDPR, ISO27001, HIPAA, CAP/CLIA and GxP.

    Highlights:

    • Lifebit’s technology solutions serve two key customer groups - Data Custodians, those who generate and aggregate the data (i.e. national population genomic initiatives, healthcare providers and biobanks) and Data Consumers, those who analyse the data for Clinical Diagnosis and R&D purposes (i.e. pharmaceutical companies and public/private research organisations).
    • On the Data Custodian side, Lifebit was chosen in 2020 to provide the secure, scalable and collaborative Trusted Research Environment for the UK Government agency, Genomics England, with its 135,000-strong cohort of cancer, rare disease and COVID-19 patients, including their genomic and clinical data. This enabled global pharma companies, researchers and clinicians with secure access and analysis of this data and was central to the UK Government’s research response to COVID-19.
    • Lifebit is also supporting the implementation of Asia’s largest population-scale Precision Medicine Initiative, the Hong Kong Genome Project. This initiative involves the sequencing and analysis of 50,000 genomes and associated clinical data from cancer, rare and undiagnosed disease patients, with a mission to achieve faster disease diagnosis and develop more precise treatments.
    • Lifebit has deployed a highly scalable cloud infrastructure, capable of transforming raw sequencing data into clinical diagnosis and research insights in as little as3 hours.
    • Leading Data Consumers and pharma leaders like Boehringer Ingelheim turn to Lifebit to connect them to this otherwise locked up data to obtain novel therapeutic insights.
    • Through a long-term AI-partnership with the German pharma giant Lifebit’s AI-powered platform Lifebit REAL is being used to track global disease outbreaks and deliver drug targets.
    • Lifebit is proudly providing trusted, future-proof technology solutions and advanced analytics for today’s leaders in pharma, population genomics and precision medicine globally.
